Subject: good choices for urban shade tree : Ulmus americana American Elm
Comments: Recently, street improvements took two shade trees from our front yard on a busy, urban street. We want to replant trees that will provide shade, be fast growing, and very tolerant of traffic. The area between our house and the sidewalk is just 15 - 20 feet wide. The earliest, reasonable opportunity for us to plant will be fall, 2008. The area receives full sun in the afternoon.I heard that the new American elm might be a good choice. We are open to suggestions. Thanks very much.
